Hatteras Fisherman Project

The Hatteras Fisherman project began in 2011 with Daniel’s assignment to document the lives of local watermen (and women) for the annual Hatteras Village Day at the Docks Festival. In the first days of photographing, Daniel realized that he was witnessing a complex and endangered way of life… caught in the rip current of government restrictions, big industry over-fishing, and tangled in the crosshairs of a delicate balance with the environment. The assignment then became an impassioned documentary photography project to acknowledge, honor, and record the living history of Hatteras watermen and women.
